Service

One of the four main principles of the NHS is to stimulate a desire to render service. This quality is defined as the voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, without direct financial or material compensation to the individual performing the service. Students should keep this in mind when seeking outside hour opportunities. The goal is not the fastest way to hour completion, but the best way you can help your community and grow as a National Honor Society member.

Acceptable Outside Hour Suggestions:
Work done for 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations
Homeless shelters
Museums
Festivals
Boy/Girl Scouts
Food banks
Retirement homes
Environmental projects

Outside hours will not be accepted if a family member or friend's family member are designated as the supervisor of the event.

Unacceptable Outside Hours:
Babysitting
Any work with pay
Athletic Events
Any event without supervision
Activities related to personal family
Court appointed
